Small Hard Things: How Courage Gets Built

Most of us wait to feel brave before we act. That’s backwards. Courage is built the way strength is built: in reps.
The practice
Each day, pick one small, hard, good thing, and do it before you feel ready.
- Make the phone call you’ve been avoiding.
- Get up when the alarm goes off.
- Say the true thing kindly.
Why it works
Every small hard thing is evidence. Over time that evidence adds up to a quiet confidence: I can stand.
“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13
Try it this week
Write down one small hard thing for tomorrow. Tell one person. Do it. Then do it again.
